Leadership Triangle is now accepting applications for our 2016 Awards Gala presented by the Carolina Hurricanes. This annual event is focused on finding and celebrating regional heroes of the Triangle area. Often these heroes are unsung, other times they are well known, sometimes they are Leadership Triangle alumni, others are not, but what they all hold in common is going above and beyond to advance our region. As an organization whose core mission is to promote regionalism, we see the yearly gala as vital to this overall goal.
If you wish to nominate someone, you have until Friday October 21st to do so. Click here to access the form. Nominees are made to one of five categories:
- Community Service
- Arts, Sports, and Entertainment
- Economic Development
- Strategic Partnership
- Goodmon Fellows
The link for the nomination has more information on each of these categories and what would make someone a great candidate. For an example of a great nominee, let’s look at an award recipient from last year’s gala. Glen Warren found himself a single father of children aged seven, nine and eleven and had to fight hard to keep everything together as a father. Now, years later, his children are adults and Glen runs a program in Raleigh called Fathers Forever. He says it’s a jail alternative for men who have fallen far behind on their child support and those who need basic parenting skills. After its success he is expanding to Durham and Winston-Salem with hopes to make it a model used across North Carolina.
If you know someone like Glen Warren who has contributed to our region in any of the five areas listed above, share that with us so we can celebrate their work. Leadership Triangle has been promoting the idea of regionalism in the Triangle since 1992 and is always looking for people and organizations in Orange, Durham, Wake and Chatham counties to shine a spotlight on. This gala is the perfect opportunity to bring those working hard for the Triangle region out of the dark and make people aware of their accomplishments.
This year’s Leadership Triangle Awards Gala will be held in Durham at the American Tobacco Campus Bay 7 from 5:30-9:00 pm on December 7th. James F. Goodmon, CEO of Capitol Broadcasting and chair emeritus of Leadership Triangle will be presenting the Goodmon Awards to those selected. Once again, please consider carefully if you know of anyone you believe merits consideration and nominate them at the link provided.
